July 2021

Welcome to the monthly volunteer update for July

With parkrun having now restarted in England, for the first time in 16 months we now have a majority of our events taking place on Saturday and Sunday mornings. And with events having started or planned to soon resume in Italy, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Canada and the Netherlands, there has been a lot of positive news to celebrate.

However, we know that there are parts of the world where parkrun is still yet to return or locations where parkrun has been forced to temporarily pause. We want you to know that the parkrun family is thinking of you and hoping that you will be able to join us and celebrate Saturday or Sunday mornings again soon.

Now that you’re here, please take the opportunity to have a look around the Volunteer Hub, where you’ll find all that you need to know about volunteering at parkrun. You can read more about our guiding principles for volunteering here and learn about the different roles that are required for parkrun events - why not try something new next time you volunteer?

In addition, the parkrun Safeguarding Hub contains everything you need to know about safeguarding children and vulnerable adults at parkrun events.

Volunteering Videos - Timing

Following on from last month’s video about Barcode Scanning, here’s another video from our Youtube channel about Timing. Thanks to Gary Cheary, Event Director for Sutton Park parkrun, for allowing us to use it.

All of our barcode scanning and timing is now done via the Virtual Volunteer app. It's really simple, we promise! If you are barcode scanning or timing at any parkrun event, all you need to do is download the parkrun Virtual Volunteer app from either the App store or Google play.

parkrun Support

Got a question about parkrun? Please take a look at our parkrun support pages, which contain the answers to just about everything you ever wanted to know about parkrun.

The Support Site is our public-facing resource and contains many frequently asked questions which we’d also encourage you to share with your parkrun community.

If you need to contact us, please use this contact form, and add your parkrun ID so we can easily find you (with more than 7 million people now registered to parkrun, more than a few names are duplicated these days!).

Thanks for reading, we will be back again in August, when hopefully even more parkrun events will have resumed. Until then, wherever you are in the world, stay safe, keep active, and if you’re close to a parkrun event that’s open - see you at the weekend.
